The Department of Pathology at UNM Health Science Center is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to conduct research with Dr. Tae-Hyung Kim. The successful candidate will have a basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology and scientific research methodology, the ability to collect and process research data, and to accurately record and report findings.

The research programs in the Kim lab include (1) to investigate regulatory role of glucose on cancer mechanotype, (2) to improve cancer immunotherapy through modulating immune and cancer cell mechanotypes, and (3) to identify molecular crosstalk between mechanotype regulation and autophagy in cancer cells. Research models include a combination of in vitro human cancer cell lines as well as primary cells and tissues. Techniques to be used may include but are not limited to:  cell culture, western blot analysis, real-time PCR, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence/confocal microscopy, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), bioinformatics, and cell mechanotyping developed by the Principal Investigator (PI).

Primary responsibility of the candidate will be to carry out research under the general supervision of the PI. The individual will be expected to assist the PI in planning and implementation of different experimental procedures. The ideal candidate will exhibit the following characteristics:

• Flexibility to work on different projects
• Ability to learn, plan and conduct experiments, analyze and report data
• Ability to accurately record findings
• Knowledge of the use and maintaining laboratory equipment in good working condition
• Ability to multitask.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

The Kim lab is also affiliated with The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center and located in Cancer Research Facility at UNM HSC campus. The PI, Department, and Cancer Center will provide unique and optimal environment for learning and career development.
