태양에너지는 인류를 위한 가장 중요한 미래 에너지 자원의 하나로 인정받고 있다. 이에 따라 태양에너지를 이용하여 바이오에너지를 생산하기 위한 다양한 분야의 연구가 수행되고 있다. 본 리뷰에서는 인간이 사용하는 에너지의 현황에서 시작하여 광합성을 통한 태양에너지의 전환, 바이오에너지의 생산 그리고 이와 관련된 탄소발자국 (carbon footprint) 및 인공광합성 노력에 이르기까지 핵심 이슈를 중심으로 일목요연하게 정리함으로서 바이오에너지 생산 관련 연구에 좋은 참고자료가 될 것으로 판단된다.
