The IBS Special Meeting on “The Geography of Species Associations” will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 through Sunday, November 17 in Montreal, Canada at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) located in the heart of downtown Montreal. The meeting will be co-hosted by UQAM and McGill University with the support of the Canada Research Chair in Spatial Modelling and Biodiversity (UQAM) and the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science (QCBS).
Recent advances in macroecology and macroevolution have contributed much to our understanding of the origin and distribution of biodiversity. At the same time, community ecology has been informed by the inclusion of more sophisticated null models and phylogenetic methods, providing new insights into community structure and function, as well as the processes driving species distributions and their patterns of co-occurrence and association. This special meeting of the International Biogeography Society will explore the intersection between these fields and how they have contributed to the study of biogeography.

최근 환경과 생물다양성 그리고 기후변화에 대한 관심과 연구는 폭발적으로 증가하고 있습니다.과거 다윈과 월리스에 의해 주창된 Biogeography 분야는 바로 이러한 환경과 생물과의 관계를 보다 긴밀하게 분석할 수 있는 학문분야라 할 수 있습니다. 비록 필자는 이번 학회에서 발표를 하지는 않지만, 학회를 준비하고 운영하는 Host로서 참여할 계획에 있습니다. Special Meeting이라고해서 특화된 소수인원만 참석하는 meeting으로 오해할 수 있겠으나, 현재 17개국에서 약 170여명이 등록을 마친 상태이며, 아마 최종 참석인원을 200명 이상이 될 것으로 보입니다.
특히 이번학회에서는 Biogeography의 저자인 Mark Lomolino 교수의 워크샵과 총 4명의 Keynote speaker sessions도 예정되어 있습니다.
본 학회보고서에서는 학회에서 발표되는 최근 동향의 연구내용 뿐만 아니라, 학회의 운영과 조직과정에 대해서도 상세히 보고할 예정입니다.
특히 이번학회에서는 Biogeography의 저자인 Mark Lomolino 교수의 워크샵과 총 4명의 Keynote speaker sessions도 예정되어 있습니다.
