내독소는 세균의 세포 내부에서 발견되는 독성 물질로써 단백질·다당류·지질의 복합체로 이루어진 항원이다. 단백질 성분은 이물질(異物質)로 인식되는 항원의 특성을 결정하며, 다당류 성분은 어떤 유형의 항체가 내독소 분자와 반응하여 면역작용을 할 것인가를 결정한다. 내독소는 음식물이나 미생물에 오명된 물질 어디서나 발견되는 것으로 치명적인 문제를 일으키는 독성 물질이다. 본 리뷰 논문은 내독소를 검출하는 전통적인 방법뿐 아니라 최근 개발된 다양한 바이오센서를 이용한 검출에 대해 소개하고 있어 내독소를 검출하기위한 연구자들에게 유익한 정보를 제공하고 있다.
