1972년 Sweden Stockholm 에서 제1회 International Society of Electrochemistry 가 개최된 이후로 2002년 까지는 매년 1회, 2011년 까지는 매년 2회 개최되어 왔으며 이후로 매년 3회 유럽을 중심으로 개최되어온 권위있는 학술대회이다. 미국 중심을 ECS (Electrochemical Society)와 유럽 중심의 ISE(International Society of Electrochemistry) 가 전세계 전기화학 학술을 주도하고 있다.
본 학술회의에서는 아래와 같은 주제를 다루게 된다.

2013 ECS @ San Fransisco 를 참가하면서 북미 중심의 에너지 관련 기술에 대한 정보를 습득하였고 KOSEN 을 통하여 학회 동향보고를 실시한 바 있다. 이번 스위스에서 개최되는 2014 ISE 는 유럽을 대표하는 전기화학 학술대회로서 북미와 유럽의 기술 동향을 비교해볼 수 있는 좋은 계기가 될 것으로 사료된다.
