후쿠시마 원전 사고 발생이후 중대사고 발생 및 그 결과에 대한 불안감이 증폭되고 있는 현재 상황에서 기존 및 미래 원자로에 대한 중대사고 연구 우선순위를 평가하기 위해 유럽 중대사고 연구의 과거 경험 및 현재 연구현황을 조사할 필요가 있음. 이에 유럽연합의 SARNET 2 (Severe Accident NETwork of Excellence) 프로그램 및 SARP (Severe Accident Research Priorities) 평가가 수행된 바 있음.본 분석물에서는 Transuranium Institute가 수행한 TMI-2 사고 조사, Phebus PF 연료 다발 및 핵분열 생성물 침적 조사에 대한 연구결과를 소개하고 있는 바 중대사고 관련 연구자들에게 해당 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 판단됨.
