조직은 항상성과 재생을 위해 줄기세포에 의존한다. 최근 연구들은 표피줄기세포가 세포의 거주환경과 정상조직 항상성에 반응하여 변화할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 논문에서는 본래 계통 (lineage)-제한적 줄기세포와 수임된 전구체 (committed progenitors)가 나타내는 유연성과 가역성에 대해 논의하고 어떻게 장기 자기재생능 (long-term self-renewing capacities)과 다계열 계통분화능 (multilineage differentiation potential )을 다시 획득하는지에 대해 알아보고자 한다.
