일반적으로 신경변성 질환은 노인인구에서 증가하는 양상을 보인다. 신경변성 질환의 메커니즘에 대한 이해가 부족하여 의약품산업을 통한 표적-기반 약물 스크리닝에 어려움이 있다. 하지만 환자에서 유래된 신경 그리고 교세포 (glia) 내 표현형 스크리닝은 리프로그래밍, 교차분환, 그리고 유전체 교정의 발전을 통해 가능해졌다. 본 논문은 이와 같은 새로운 분야의 성과 개요와 더불어 환자-유래 세포에서 스크리닝 가능한 세포 표현형과 질환-연관 세포 표현형을 밝히는데 어려움에 대해 논하고자 한다.
