최근 차세대 태양전지 물질로 메틸암모늄 레드 할라이드는 상당히 각광을 받고 있다. 그 이유는 소면적이지만, 아주 짧은 시간에 20%의 효율을 달성하였기 때문이다. 궁극적으로 대면적 고효율 태양모듈을 달성하기 위해서는 기초적인 이해가 충분히 뒷받침 되어야 한다. 하지만 최근까지도 대부분의 태양전지 연구는 소자 효율 보고에 머물러 있는 실정이다.
