International conference on the Internet of Things (IoT)는 "사물인터넷“를 메인 주제로 다루는 전 세계에서 가장 전통있는 국제 학술회의이다.
2008년을 시작으로 하여 2년에 한번씩 개최되어왔으며, 올해부터는 매해 개최될 예정이다. 5회째를 맞이하여 대한민국 서울에서 10월 26일부터 28일까지 3일간 개최될 예정으로, 이번 행사는 Auto-ID Labs, KAIST에서 학회를 준비하고 있다. 이 학회는 매년 약 25% 정도의 논문 선정률(Accepted ratio)를 유지하고 있으며, 전 세계 각지의 사물인터넷 관련 산업체 및 학계 연구원들이 참가하여 수준 높은 연구 결과들이 발표될 예정이다.
이 학회의 주요 관심 분야는 사물인터넷을 위한 사물 플랫폼, 네트워킹 솔루션, 아키텍처 모델, 빅데이터, 클라우드 컴퓨팅, 사물 웹 (Web of Things), 사물인터넷 서비스 기술, 사물인터넷 어플리케이션 등으로 사물인터넷의 전반적인 내용을 포괄하고 있다. 이 학회는 크게 키노트 세션, 테크니컬 세션, 워크숍 세션, 포스터 세션, 데모 세션으로 나누어지며, 각 세션은 세부 주제에 따라 여러 세부 세션들로 나누어져 진행될 예정이다. 본인은 이 학회의 다양한 세션에 참여하여 전세계적 사물인터넷 연구 동향을 수집/분석할 예정이다.

- Physical world event processing: Novel data collection and analytics on massive amount of physical data stream achieving the unprecedented accuracy and disclosing the hidden mechanism among physical world events.
- Advanced manufacturing and logistics with IoT: Evaluation of challenges of real world deployments of Industries 4.0, Industrial Internet and GS1 architecture and conclusive suggestions for future deployments. Investigation of social and democratizing aspects of 3D printing technology and IoT.
- Internet of Things Architecture: Novel information architecture design on field device, edge device and servers in cloud, investigation of technologies supporting transitioning functional and processing allocation across system entities.
- Advanced data capture and networking technology: Advanced identification, access and networking technology including localization and image recognition system interworking with information system. Service and content oriented networking.
- Interoperability of IoT systems: Service and device discovery, synchronization of distributed directory systems, and semantic data description frameworks.
- Social Acceptance of IoT Systems: Data security, authentication and authorization. Privacy protection and tampering avoidance and detection in IoT systems.
