T 세포에 CD28 수용체의 ligation은 naive T 세포 활성을 위한 T 세포 수용체 (TCR) ligation 다음으로 중요한 신호이다. CD28 신호는 세포골격 리모델링, 싸이토카인 생성, 생존, 그리고 분화 같은 T 세포 발달에 중요하다. TCR ligation 단독으로 이루기 어려운 T 세포의 후생적, 전사적, 번역 후 변화를 CD28 ligation이 이끌어 낸다. 본 논문에서는 효과기 (effector)그리고 면역조절 T 세포 (regulatory T cells)에서 CD28과 그 ligand의 기능에 대해 살펴보고 인간 질병에서 CD28 family members의 기능과 그것을 활용한 치료 방법에 대해 고찰한다.
