급성심근경색으로 응급실로 온 환자는 혈관을 다시 뚫어주는 시술을 받게 된다. 그러나 이러한 시술로 막혔던 혈관에 갑자기 다시 혈액이 유입되면 활성산소가 급격히 생성되며 심장조직에 손상을 주게 된다. 이러한 기전에 중요한 역할을 하는 것이 바로 미토콘드리아. 이 논문에서는 미토콘드리아의 ROS 생성에 관련된 기전과 질병에서의 역할에 대해서 서술하였다.
