ISME conference는 Nature publishing group이 주관하는 미생물 생태학 관련 최대 학회이다. 시퀀싱 기술의 급격한 발전과 human microbiome의 생리학적 중요성이 부각되면서 학회는 기존의 환경 생태학 중심에서다양한 분야에서 미생물 응용 기술로 그 관심 분야를 확장하고 있다. 2년 마다 열리는 학회인 만큼 가장 이슈가되는 연구 결과를 앞다투어 소개하고 있으며, 다양한 미팅과 교육 코스, 워크샾 등도 함께 진행된다.학회는 5일간 진행되며 아래와 같은 세션이 준비되어 있다.

현EMBL에서 multi-omics 기법을 이용하여 microbial community 분석을 진행하고 있으며, 현재 진행중인 연구를 발표하고 연구 트렌드를 파악하기 위해 참석하게 되었습니다. Human microbiome과 병원균 상호 작용, 합성 미생물 커뮤니티에 관련된 최신 동향을 중점적으로 보고할 예정입니다.
