종양 주위의 미세환경은 종양의 성장 및 질병의 진행에 있어 매우 중요하다. 중간엽줄기세포의 면역 조절 및 다양한 자극에 대한 유동적인 반응성과 같은 특징은 종양의 미세환경에도 중요한 영향을 미친다. 종양 주변에 분포한 중간엽줄기세포는 면역능력을 감소시키고 종양의 성장을 촉진시킨다. 따라서 중간엽줄기세포의 형질 및 면역조절능력을 조작하여 치료에 활용하고자 하는 연구들에 대한 관심도가 증가하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 이와 관련된 연구들을 소개하고 어떻게 주변 면역계와 상호작용하는지에 대해 기술하였다. 이는 관련연구자들에게 큰 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.
