International Conference on Multifunctional, Hybrid and Nanomaterials (HYMA)는 2009년 처음 프랑스Tours에서 시작되어 격년으로 개최되는 재료과학에 관한 학회로, 역사가 짧은 편이나 매회 참여국 및 참가자수가 급증하여, 2015년 4회 학회에서는 66개국1274명의 참석자 이르러 갈수록 관심이 드높아지고 있습니다. 2017년 제 5회에도 1200명 이상의 참석자와 306개의 구두발표 (5 plenary lectures, 3 tutorials, 31 featured talks, 267 contributed oral presentations) 그리고 900 개 이상의 포스터 발표가 준비되었다고 합니다.
재료과학의 여러분야를 다루지만, 특히 다기능성 물질과 하이브리드 물질을 주된 주제로 삼는 점에서 특징이 있습니다. 학회는 다섯개의 심포지움으로 구성되어 있습니다.

신청인의 연구분야가 재료과학인데 biological material과 synthetic material를 융합하여 양자간의 장점을 극대화는 방법에 특히 관심이 많습니다. 따라서 같은 주제가 집중된 이 학회에 자연스럽게 관심을 갖게 되었습니다. 신청인 또한 심포지움A: Biohybrids and biomaterials에 Complexation of mucins with mucoadhesive polymers: Enhanced lubricity and formulation of mucus mimics이라는 제목으로 초록을 제출하고 구두발표를 확인받았습니다. 보고서를 쓰게 되면 심포지움A: Biohybrids and biomaterials에서 발표되는 다른 발표들을 중심으로 분석하고 정보공유를 하되 bio-synthetic hybrid materials연구에 대한 간략한 배경, 역사, 그리고 전망도 살펴볼 계획입니다.
