미국 IS&T(Society for Imaging Science and Technology)가 주최하는 Electronic Imaging 국제심포지엄은 매년 1~2월에 미국 샌프란시스코에서 개최되는 중요한 학술행사로서, 과학, 통신, 보안, 교통, 교육, 우주탐색, 의료영상, 예술표현, 오락 등 다양한 분야의 영상 관련 주제들이 발표되고 논의되는 아주 큰 국제학술행사이다. 2018년 1월 28일부터 2월 2일까지 열리는 제30차 EI 행사에서는 영상 센서에서 디스플레이까지 전자영상에 관한 전분야에 걸쳐 18개의 컨퍼런스가 동시에 열릴 예정이다. 이번 학술 행사의 주요 주제로 인지과학, 영상획득 장치, 영상 재현, 문서처리, 디지털 영상처리 시스템, 가상현실, 실시간 영상, 웹과 모바일 영상을 포함한다. Electronic Imaging 2018 국제학술행사에는 전세계에서 50여 개국이 넘는 나라에서 1000여 명의 전문가들이 참석할 예정이며, 구두논문의 채택률은 30% 이하로 생각된다.

Electronic Imaging 국제학술행사에는 매년 미국 샌프란시스코에서 개최되는 거대한 학술행사로서 디지털 영상의 전분야의 최근 연구 결과를 발표하고 논의하는 매우 중요한 학술대회이다. 본인은 이 학술행사에 매년 참석하여 논문도 발표하고 연구에 필요한 최신 연구 동향과 정보를 수집해 왔다. 한국에서도 이 모임에 참석하는 전문가들이 매년 증가하고 있지만, 일본이나 독일 등 선진국에 비해 아직도 국내 참석자 수는 상당히 적은 편이다. 따라서 EI 국제학술대회 참가보고서를 통해 이 학술행사를 국내의 여러 전문가들에게 널리 알리고, 전기전자 정보통신 분야의 더 많은 사람들이 이 행사에 참여하여 귀중한 기술 정보를 습득할 수 있는 기회를 알려 주고 싶다.
