암이 진행되는 과정에서 많은 종양은 순환종양세포(CTC)들과 다른 종류의 바이오마커들을 혈액으로 유출시키게 된다. 순환종양세포를 분석하는 것은 특정 치료에 대한 반응이나 암의 재발을 예측하거나 모니터링 하는 것을 환자의 혈액 샘플을 통해 수행할 수 있다는 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 본 리뷰는 전혈 샘플로부터 CTC를 분리하고 회복시켜 높은 전이 가능성을 가진 세포들을 구분하기위한 기술적인 발전에 대해 논하고 있다. 전반적인 기술을 소개함과 동시에 CTC의 임상에서의 중요성 및 임상 응용을 위한 요구조건 등을 다루고 있으며, CTC의 기능적/생화학적 표현형을 분석할 수 있는 기술적 진보 또한 요약하여 전하고 있다. 더 나아가 circulation tumour DNA 및 exosome의 암 조기 진단 및 모니터링 용 마커로서의 응용 가능성에 대해서도 논하고 있다. 암과 관련된 liquid biopsy 기반 바이오마커의 최근 동양에 대한 정보를 폭넓게 접할 수 있으므로 유용한 리뷰라 생각되어 추천하고자 한다.
