노화는 생리적기능과 기관 건강이 점차적으로 감퇴하여 질병에 걸리고 죽음에 이르는 과정이다. 노화의 원인을 이해하는 것은 생물학에서 가장 흥미로운 분야 중에 하나이다. 사람들은 세포적 그리고 분자적 레벨에서, 유용한 기능은 잃어버리고 해로운 인자들은 축적되는 무언가 노화를 개시하고 발전시키는 결정원들이 있을 것이라는 가설을 계속 주장해 왔다. 본 분석은 최근 알려진 노화 과정에 기여하는 다양한 인자들을 소개하고 이들이 어떻게 새포와 개체의 수명에 영향을 끼치는지 정리한다.
