A national manufacturing infrastructure that the private sector can draw upon to build successful new job-creating industries includes high-quality education and training of a technical workgorce, a solid base of research and development yielding mew technologies, deployment networks that make technology widely avaolable to industry and educational institutions, and a flexible financial and budiness environment that encourages innovation and planning for the long-term health of the enterprise.The National Science and Techology Council has establishes the Committee on Techmological Innovation, within which the Subcommittee on Manufacturing Infrastrucure coordinates manufacturing infrastructure policy and programs among gederal agencies and encourages effective partnerships among industry, the workforce, educational institutions and government. This document describes ongoing gederal agency programs that contribute to improving the nation's manufacturing performance. It provides and overview of intramural and
extramural research, development, deployment and education activities that are supported within federal agencies as well as through interagency pfrtmerships and links betwiin the federal government, industry, States and educational institutions. The goal of thes policy and these programs is to enable the nation's manufacturing capacity throughout the coming decades.
