There is still a lot of confusion about the value of the nuclear matter compression modulus, K , with significant disagreement between regorous relativistic and non-relativistic calculations. Also, the most recent results on the isoscalar giant dipole resonance(ISGDR) appeared to cast serious doubts on the "scaling model" description of the compression modes in that the nuclear incompressibility, K4, 'extracted from the energies of the ISGDR is significantly lower than that extracted from the giant monopole resonance. Nuclear incompressibility is also a topic of tremendous interest to heavy-ion physicists, as well as to those interested in the fundamental aspects of effective interactions.
