This book comprises the manuscripts of a workshop on "Integral Materials Modelling", which was held in Aachen/Germany on October 6, 1999. The workshop was designed to present, to promote, and to advance the rapidly emerging field of modelling and simulation in materials science and engineering. It was organised by the collaborative research centre(SFB 370)"Integral Materials Modelling" of the Deutsche For schungsgemeinschaft(DFG), which is concerned with the through process modelling of materials from the liquid phase to the final product. * CONTENTS * * Numerical simulation of thermo-fluid phenomena in GTA spot weld pools * Simulations of the initial transient during directional solidification of multicoponent alloys using the phase field method. * Simulation of the chemical vapour deposition of α-Al2O3 as a diffusion barrier in composite materials * Modelling the boundary conditions for thermomechanical processing-oxide scale behaviour and composition effects * Modelling microstructural evolution during annealing * Integration of physically based models into FEM and application in simulation of metal forming processes * Real-time scaled simulations of GP-Zone formation in Al-Cu * Linking nanoscale and macroscale: calculation of the change in crack growth resistance of steels with different states of Cu precipitation using a modification of stress-strain curves owing to dislocation theory * Micromechanical modelling of the damage evolution in ductile metals * A comparison of FEM-simulations to measurements of residual stresses at the example of a welded plate. * Modelling of the mechanical behaviour of the single-crystal turbine alloy CMSX-4 during thermomechanical loading
