This booklet summarises the OECD's work of direct relevance to your discussions. It also contains an annotated agenda which is intended to focus and guide debate at the Ministerial meeting. Some of the key questions at the centre of your discussions will be: How can we make better use of market-based instruments in order to realise both economic and environmental objectives? What policies can help our economies seize the productivity benefits of new technologies? What will it take on the part of OECD countries to launch a new WTO round? The session with non-members will be particularly important for rebuilding confidence in the multilateral trading system. The Annual Report of the Organisation for 2001, a copy of which you have also received, provides additional background on work being done at OECD on behalf of Member governments. < Table of Contents > Annotated Agenda Policies for Growth, Employment and Social Cohesion - World economic situation - The new economy: beyond the hype - Long-term prospects: policy challenges for a world in transition The multilateral trading system - The multilateral trading system - Integrating developing countries in the global economy Challenges and Opportunities in the Global Economy - Biotechnology: Responding to public concerns - Co-operative relations with non-members - Corporate affairs - International migration - Investing in competencies for all - New policy challenges for health systems - Policies to enhance sustainable development - Policy frameworks for E-commerce - Policy implications of ageing populations - Pro-competitive restructuring of public utility industries - Public Governance - Reaching out to civil society - Rising to global development challenges - Towards environmental sustainability
