4권의 LAB NOTES입니다. 1999년 1월 - Human Genetic disease - Gene therapy - Genome research and the genetics of human behaviour - Clinical genetics and gene screening - Moecular basis of cancer 1996년 10월 - Vision and hearing - the ageing brain - mental health - movement - drugs and addiction - learning and memory and more... 2000년 1월 - Down on the Pharm Much of the recent news coverage about the reation of genetically modified organisms(GMOs) has been devoted to public anxieties about modified food plants. However, GMOs are also playing an increasingly important role in medical research and in the production of medicines themselves. This issue of LabNotes explores some of the techniques being developed and the controversies they have generated. 2000년 7월 - Beyond the genome Once Francis Crick had walked into the Eagle pub in Cambridge in February 1953 and announced that he and James Watson had found the secret of life - the structure of DNA - it was only going to be a matter of time before the genetic recipe for making a human being was determined. The first'atlas' of the human chromosomes, published in 2000, shows the arrangement and location of every gene that has been identified. Each gene consists of a set of DNA bases(A, C, G and T), the letters in the code whose sequence directs the production and control of proteins. The Human Genome Project - a comprehensive analysis of our genetic make-up - is the result of a unique worldwide collaboration of scientists. This issue of LabNotes looks at the achievements of the project, the new possibilities it will open up and the challenges it poses to our society.
