This CORDIS focus results supplement focuses on the best R&D in Europe and beyond. The "Environment" chapter introduces and ecological high impact composite. This composite results from recycling PET bottles or other PET material. There is a difference regarding the waste treatment of PET packaging material in the different European countries. Some countries, e.g. Germany, refill PET bottles several times while other countries collect PET waste collection system. Both treatments are equally good as they save energy. The innovation that lies in this result is, that the recycled PET waste can be cheaply transformed into industry segments, such as automotive or electrical appliances. Another great innovation is showcased in the "industrial Technologies" chapter. This new recycling methodology is based on the development of a new rubber/ cork material for footwear in-socks. These in-socks incorporate rubber and cork wastes and the comfort of wearing shoes with these inlas has been approved as being very comfortable. Rechargeable batteries are environmentally friendlier than ordinary batteries, but to charge them can be very time-consuming. Within the "Energy" section we present a slovernian company that has developed a fast charger for all kinds of batteries. The charger is based on a new technology that will be patented soon. Instead of charging batteries during half a day or more, it now takes only 10 minutes. In the "Information Technology" chapter we describe a northern irish company that has produced audio data compression software, called SOFT apt-XF algorithm. The developers have already programmed the predecessor. which was until now a hardware solution. The company has rewritten the code. Their product now provides a multi-threaded solution for professionals and allows the flexible usage of audio sequences and is not dependent on the usage of specific hardware. In the same chapter, a very useful soft-ware application called the E-book library is presented. Moving documents, brochures and other material back and forth can be a real chore for people who work in teams. With the introduction of this new system, the exchange of information between different parties, aka teamworking, is more efficient and environmentally friendly than without it. The e-book is a clever innovation that avoids mountains of papre. Additioanlly it offers a genuine way of organising and maintaining all kinds of information in electronic books and exchanging documents.
