◆ POLICY PLAN 2001 2005 ◆
The present Policy Plan for 2001-2005 is founded upon the implementation of the Policy Plan for 1996-2000 and has been drafted in the general context of government policy and in consultation with the Flemish academic community.
During the last decade, the Flemish Board of Trustees of the Federal N.F.W.O. (Nationaal Fonds voor Vetenschappelijk Onderzoek) (National Fund for Scientific Research) has gained its independence; this is manifested by its external presentation since 1996 as the Fund for Scientific Research-Flanders (Belgium)(F.W.O.-Vlaanderen).
During the previous planning period, the Board of Referees were remodelled. Interim and retrospective evalutions were introduced and given the same importance as the prospective evaluation. Many resources were applied more directly and their area was extended with a view to internationalisation of research. Finally, during the last planning period, the intake of mandatories was increased at both the pre-and postdoctoral levels. This development is extensively discussed in the Expenditure Analysis for 1991-2000.
