I know some of anticancer drugs can be used together as a combination therapy.
Is taxol combined with other drugs?
Is there a development of resistance?
If so, what is the mechanism behind?

>I know some of anticancer drugs can be used together as a combination therapy. >Is taxol combined with other drugs? >Is there a development of resistance? >If so, what is the mechanism behind? > ans) No perfect drug on earth. please see my reference file. It's not complete answer. Briefly, if I explain it, taxol is best combined with platinum drug(carboplatin) and other cytotoxic drug, monoclonal antibodies etc could be synergistic with taxol on preclinical level. Taxol has a absolute resistance obstacle as like other anticancer drugs. However, mechanism of taxol resitance was different from that of existent anticancer drug(for example, MDR pump). Several known mechanism of resistance is mrdi Pgp overexpression (drug efflux pump) and the changes in tubulin which is a mojor binding site of taxol. In addition, mutations of several apoptosis-relating gene are known as a reistance mechanism. For more detail, send me e-mail, I will do my best to help you. Thanks.
