New LM guides feature "caged ball" technology A new technology from THK could help your linear motion system increase speed and accuracy of motion, decrease noise levels, provide long-term, maintenance-free operation and reduce sources of contamination. THK’s new Type SRS linear motion guides feature the company’s “Caged Ball” technology, a technology that isolates each of the load carrying re-circulating balls in their LM guides in an individual cage or a pocket. The company says the cage prevents ball-to-ball contact and the associated friction. The cage can also act as a reservoir for lubricants, helping eliminate the need for an external lubricating system. THK says the “Caged Ball” systems also offer higher speed capabilities and, with 1/10th the torque deviation of standard LM guides, greatly improved positioning accuracy.
