    >부탁합니다. Benzyl chloride[(chloromethyl)benzene, alpha-chlorotoluene], C6H5CH2Cl, formula weight 126.58, is colorless liquid with a very pungent ordor. Its vapors are irritating to the eyes and mucous membranes, and it is classified as a powerful lachrimator. Physical Properties - freezing point, C : -39.2 - boiling point , C : 179.4 - density, t, kg/m3 : 1113.5(4/4) 1104(15/15) 1100(15/20) - refractive index, nD(t) : 1.54124(15), 1.5392(20) - vapor density(air=1) : 4.34 - heat of combustion, kJ/mol : 3708.7 - specific heat(101 kPa), J/(kg.K) : 1351.4 - heat of vaporization, kJ/mol : 461.24 Chemical Properties - Benzyl chloride is hydrolyzed slowly by boiling water and more radily at elevated temperture and pressure in the presence of alkalies. - In the presence of suitable catalysts benzyl chloride reacts with carbon monoxide to produce phenylacetic acid. - Benzyl chloride reacts with benzene in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, to give diphenylmethane. - Benzyl chloride reacts with alkali hydrogen sulfides, sulfides, and polysulfides to yield benzenthiol, dibenzyl sulfide, and dibenzyl polysulfides, respectively. Manufacture - Benzyl chloride is manufactured by the thermal or photochemical chlorination of toluene at 65-100C. Handling - As is the case during maufacture, contact with those metallic impurities that catalyze Friedel-Crafts condensation reactions must be avoided - Benzyl chloride is available in the both anhydrous and stabilzed forms. Both forms be shipped in glass carboys, nickel and lined-steel drums and nickel tnak trucks and tank cars. - Benzyl chloride is classified by DOT as chemicals NOIBN, Corrosive Liquid(white label required). Use - Nearly all uses and application of benzyl chloride are related to reactions of the active halides substituent.... source : Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. Vol 5, p 828~
