기관/단체 소개
The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) is a multidisciplinary research and resource center, bringing together state-of-the-art instrumentation, facilities and expert personnel. Its goal is to develop a knowledge base in the design, synthesis, characterization, and intelligent processing of advanced materials, driven by the needs of technological applications. The Center advances the University's mission to create a sustainable industrial economy. Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI). Faculty members associated with the Centers for Advanced Materials are recipients of a major award from the Department of Defense administered by the Office of Naval Research. The Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative award was made to Professors Sukant K. Tripathy (Chemistry), Daniel J. Sandman (Chemistry), and Jayant Kumar (Physics and Applied Physics). Professor Michael F. Rubner ( Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology) is also a coprincipal investigator in the MURI program. Rubner is a UMass Lowell alumnus. The award is in the amount of $2.5 million and the program extends from 1995-2000. The MURI program "Novel Macromolecular Architectures for Advanced Optical Materials and Processes" involves design, synthesis, and intelligent processing of polymeric materials of interest for optical and electronic phenomena. The program is heavily committed to the use of new assembly techniques to control three-dimensional macromolecular arrays.
