- The Steel Institute is divided into three units. Prof. Wolfgang Bleck is director of the Chair and the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy. Its focus lies in materials science of metallic materials. Prof. Dieter Senk holds the chair of Metallurgy of Iron and Steel, which investigates the manifold aspects metallurgical process technology of iron base alloys. The Teaching and Research Area for Integrity of Materials and Structures under direction of Prof. Sebastian Münstermann has got its key research area in the field of optimized exploitation of mechanical property profiles of damage tolerant metallic materials.
