- Computer Vision, Human-Computer Interaction, Database, Parallel Processing 등을 연구중인, University of Maryland의 Computer Science학과가 주축이 되어 만들어진 Institute입니다. 여러개의 학과가 뭉쳐서 "fundamental issues at the interface between Computer Science and other disciplines, and are supported by an advanced computing infrastructure"에 관해서 연구를 수행중입니다. 그중에서 Computer Vision Lab은 다음과 같이 소개되어져 있습니다 "Widely regarded as one of the top computer vision labs in the world". Computer Vision학계에서 아주 유명한 학자인 Azriel Rosenfeld 교수가 CfAR의 Director로 있습니다. 64개의 카메라를 이용해 동시에 캡쳐가 가능한 Keck Lab의 시설도 특징적입니다. Ben Shneiderman 교수가 있는 Human-Computer Interaction Lab(HCIL), USNews Ph.D. 랭킹 5위의 Database Lab, 그리고 Programming Languages/Software Engineering 역시 널리 잘 알려져 있습니다. 이 외에도 많은 Laboratory들이 있습니다. 아래에 웹페이지에 소개된 글을 덧붙입니다. The University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) is a research unit whose mission is to foster interdisciplinary research and education in computing. The Institute's research programs are led by distinguished faculty most of whom hold joint appointments in the departments of Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Linguistics, Philosophy, Education, Business, and Information Studies.
