Inorganic mesoporous materials
Mesoporous materials are porous materials that have pores of 2-50 nm in size. Because of the high surface area and size controllability, this class of materials has a great potential for many novel applications, especially in relation with the nanoscience and technology. While most of the presently reported mesoporous materials are synthesized in powder forms, we are interested in synthesizing mesoporous titania in thin films because thin films have many advantages over powder in utilizing the porous nature of this class of materials. We have recently shown that our mesoporous titania thin films have size selective transport properties with a threshold of 2 nm, and that these materials can be very versatiletemplates for the syntheses of arrays of nanowires or nanorods.
