Believing that having a particle detector R&D in Korea is a gate way to the world of the competitive high energy physics, he founded the Korea Detector Laboratory (KODEL), and became it's founding director. One of his research topics has been an application of highly resistive materials to high energy physics particle detectors. The Resistive Plate Chamber is the muon detector he initiated as a Korean effort in the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment in the LHC at CERN since 1997. Recent topics of detector research are multigap RPC and GEM development at KODEL. Recent topics of analysis are the top quark study at D0 experiment at FNAL and the NMSSM study at CMS experiment at CERN.
