The goal of our research is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which oncogenic signaling pathways target the organization of the cytoskeleton and how changes in the cytoskeleton and 3-D architecture of cells contributes to the various properties of transformed cells, including aberrant signaling, motility, invasion and metastasis. In addition to being targeted by oncogenic signaling pathways, the actin cytoskeleton and its associated motor proteins, e.g., myosin II, play a direct role in activation and regulation of signaling pathways. Elucidating the nature of the interactions and cross talk between the cytoskeleton and signaling pathways will potentially provide new targets for the therapeutic intervention of cancer and other pathophysiological processes.
