Our research interests are broadly focused on advancing the high-precision ultrafast photonics field and its interdisciplinary applications to address unsolved problems requiring ultra-high precision in measurement and control capabilities. The unique property of femtosecond (10-15 s) mode-locked lasers of simultaneously generating ultralow-noise optical and electronic signals can provide unprecedented precision in signal generation, measurement, control, and distribution.
Our goal is to pursue fundamental innovations that will allow the ultrafast laser based technology to achieve the highest possible timing precision, toward the attosecond (10-18 s) regime. We have further interest in transitioning the achieved precision from the laboratory to real-world applications.
