[Metabolic diseases and brain]

My research efforts focus on how neural regulation can prevent or treat metabolic diseases. The long-term goal of my research project is to elucidate the mechanisms by which brain regulates energy homeostasis to prevent obesity, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. The importance of our studies is reflected in the burgeoning research that points towards autophagy as a key response to cellular stress in a variety of human diseases. It is our expectation that identifying the reasons for the failure of autophagy system and insulin signaling pathways and restoring normal activities in response to nutritional and hormonal signals can be attractive approach for the development of better preventive and therapeutic interventions that will aid metabolic diseases.
