Biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of life, a bridge between biology and chemistry that studies how complex chemical reactions and chemical structures give rise to life. A veterinary student striving to understand disease of animals must have knowledge on biochemistry. Biochemist seeks to describe the structure, organization, and functions of living matter in chemical terms. Veterinary biochemistry emphasizes the aspects of biochemistry related to the animals and veterinary medicine. Veterinary Biochemistry course is open to the first year professional students of Veterinary School for two semesters. The course covers basic concepts in biochemistry and molecular biology particularly as it relates to the comparative aspects of animal physiology and pathology. Advanced courses in biochemistry and molecular genetics are offered to graduate students.
