This research center was established in 1993 as Interface Engineering laboratory at Sun Moon University.
At the time of establishment the research was mainly focused on low friction and wear resistant materials.
After that the laboratory carried out the research on structural ceramics, plasma spray coating, electro-plating and photo-catalysts.
Then, the laboratory was re named as Eco-interface Engineering laboratory in 2004 because of the research that were focused on energy saving and environmental cleaning materials.
The laboratory researches are funded by government projects.
In addition, the laboratory has collaboration with different companies. With its growing history, ultimately the laboratory has been transformed into the Research Center for Eco Multi-functional Nano-Materials.
