Concrete Structural Engineering Lab

Overview

CONSEL (Concrete Structural Engineering Lab.) was established for development of technologies and theories related to concrete structure and materialunder Prof. Keun Joo Byun’s leadership in 1966. Prof. Byun served as presidents of various international and domestic concrete engineering societies such as International Committee on Concrete Model Code for Asia (ICCMC), Korea Society of Civil Engineers (KSCE), Korea Concrete Institute (KCI), etc. His graduates are working as professors, researchers, government officials, and engineers in major construction and engineering companies who are the leaders of Korea construction industry.
At present, CONSEL is conducting researches in concrete structure, material, engineering, and hazard prevention technologies under the guidance of Prof. Jang-Ho Jay Kim since 2007. The specialties within concrete structure and material technologies include the development of Eco-friendly and performance target-oriented materials such as Hwang-Toh and Recycled PET fiber, etc. for various applications. The specialties within engineering technologies include the development of Performance Based Design Methods (PBMD) for concrete mix proportion design, structural member design, environment friendly and hazard prevention design, energy saving design, etc. For protective technologies, CONSEL has the cutting-edge technology expertise to consider concrete structure behavior under extreme loads such as blast load, impact load, and fire load using explicit finite element analysis.
Especially, for hazard and terror prevention technology development, Protective Structural Technology Center (PROSTEC) has been established in 2004. The CONSEL will strive to be the World’s Best Concrete Laboratory by emphasizing The Student FIRST Concept based on providing strong professional and futuristic engineering education.
