Main Interest
Hydrogeologic environmental science is an interdisciplinary subject that deals with the environmental issues caused by anthropogenic activities. Problems related to quantity and quality of water have remarkably drawn public attention nowadays.
Thus, the government of the Republic of Korea issued important pieces of legislation, such as Groundwater Act and Soil Environment Conservation Act, for sustainable groundwater management and soil environment conservation to make an effort to mitigate environmental problem which is related to the groundwater system. As numerous voices of the people demand renewable energy, utilizing geothermal energy resources has emerged as an important research topic as well as methods for efficient groundwater management and effects of groundwater discharge on coastal area.
The Laboratory of Hydrogeological Environment focuses on environmental issues of groundwater and soil by using basic theories of fluid flows and solute transport behavior in a subsurface environment and suggest solutions on groundwater and soil environmental problems by applying various research methods.
