In order to realize sustainable nuclear energy systems with maximum resource utilization and minimum radioactive waste generation, advanced fuel system for next generation reactors should be developed based on theoretical and experimental materials science.
The goal of Nuclear Fuel Materials Laboratory is to develop GEN-IV transmutation fuels, high performance power reactor fuels and high density research reactor fuels by utilizing the knowledge in empirical and theoretical relationships between the structures, processes, and properties of metal, ceramic, and composite materials.
The development of innovative fuel cycle materials for spent fuel recycle and storage, and radioactive waste forms, will be a parallel research topic of our research for better environment, safety and health.
