3D Chiral Nanomaterials
Natural materials behold innate handedness or chirality. However control of handedness in artificial nanomaterials is still challenging due to difficulty in accurate manufacturing in nanoscale.
We study a facile route to fabricate 3D chiral nanostructures with controllable optical activity without using any lithographic process or any intrinsic chiral biomaterials. The artificial chiral nanomaterials would be potentially applicable in advanced applications such as biosensor, pharmaceutical application, and photoelectronic devices.
Self-Assembly of Nanomaterials
Assembly and integration of nanomaterials are located in core of recent advances of nanotechnology. A variety of functional organic/inorganic materials have been developed so far. However their assembly into devices is still challenge primarily due to problem in control of their dispersion.
We try to employ wide spectrum of nanomaterials from 0D nanoparticle to 3D nanoweb for building blocks for device applications. Fundamental aspects on the surface and interfacial interactions are in major interests, and full attention is given to potential applications including optoelectric devices.
Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Nanocomposites
Living organisms possess exoskeleton with internal nanostructures of parallel or/and vertical motifs composed of soft biomaterials and stiff inorganic materials. These particular structures exhibit significant improvements in diverse aspects of mechanical properties such as stiffness, hardness, toughness and damping.
We are fabricating the artificial hybrid nanocomposites with highly ordered structures in micro and nanoscales. The successful realization of such nanocomposites could pave a new road for design of load bearing, vibration resistant light materials.
