Lab for Nano/Micro Mechanical Behavior

Research Area

The Nano/ Micro Mechanical Behavior Laboratory has developed both experimental and theoretical approaches towards the better understanding of the small scale (especially micro- or nano-level) mechanical behaviors of materials. Our group has developed a variety of new applications for the instrumented micro / nano indentation technique, and has also investigated nano-scale deformation, phase transformation and cracking of semiconductoturs, metals, ceramics, polymers, glasses, etc

Current research efforts include:

Multi-scale analysis of mechanical behavior (deformation and fracture)
 Instrumented macro-, micro-, and nano-indetation
Nano-mechanical behavior of nanostructured materials and bulk metallic glasses
 Nano-machining/nano-precision and nano-imprinting/nano-patterning
 Nano-mechanics of nano-wires, nano-belts, and nano-tubes
Materials for hydrogen storage and transmission
 Time-dependent (creep) behavior in solids
 Thin film mechanics
Fracture/ Damage mechanis for structural Integrity evaluation and lifetime prediction
 Fitness-for-service assessment of welded structures
