We have been pursuing the development of a "Nanospace-Confined Chemical Reactions (NCCRs)" approach, which is intended for use in designing, controlling, and applying chemical reactions that are restricted spatially to reaction media (either solid-state or solution) that are tens of nanometers in size and their neighboring surfaces.

In particular, we have devoted our efforts to initiating and improving these themes.

I) The “post-decoration approach” that functionalizes pre-formed hollow NPs into nanoreactors to catalyze organic reactions or as a template to synthesize metal nanocrystals

II) The development of MRI contrast agents of low toxicity by exploiting our insight into the properties of hollow NPs, which facilitate both the detection and characterization of lesions.

III) The "nano-confined solid-state conversion approach", which involves the reaction of nanocrystals within a thermally-stable silica nanosphere and are trying to extend this approach to develop a solid-state toolbox that can be used to study the transformation of nanocrystals.

We planned to extend this strategy to synthesize hybrid nanoparticles with increasing complexity and functionality.
