Welcome to Analysis and Control of Stochastic Systems Lab!
The word “stochastic” means something that are randomly determined. This word also stands for “uncertainty”. Engineers are familiar with systems with no uncertainty because it is easier to model, control, and predict them. However, stochastic systems are all around us; Human body is controlled by stochastic signals; Weather unpredictably changes over time; Motions of molecules are governed by thermal fluctuations (which are stochastic fluctuations). It is very difficult to characterize these uncertainties. However, to use these systems more effectively, we must understand and exploit stochastic processes in them.
ACSS investigates various stochastic systems including
1) Control of drones with brainwave (EEG)
2) Dynamics of offshore wind turbine subject to stochastic aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loads
3) Multi-physics of motor proteins with stochastic single molecule kinetics
