RDX crystal with size of 0.8 - 2.6 micron was produced by evaporation crystallization of RDX with ultrasonic spray. in the experimental range of the present work, the size of RDX crystals was found to be strongly affected by operating parameters including RDX concentration and furnace temperature.
The simplest cooling crystallizers are tanks provided with a mixer for internal circulation, where temperature decrease is obtained by heat exchange with an intermediate fluid circulating in a jacket. These simple machines are used in batch processes, as in processing of energetic materials (RDX, DADNE, ADNBF, NTO), amino acids and pharmaceuticals.

Spherical AN (Ammonium Nitrate) Particles
Spherical ammonium nitrate particles with average diameters of 82-206 μm were produced using the melt spray system built in the present work. The effects of spray pressure and temperature on the size distribution and average diameter of the ammonium nitrate particles were investigated.
DFC Process(Drowning-Out Combined with Fines Dissolution)
A new process of drowning-out combined with fines dissolution and cooling crystallization (the DFC process) was proposed to recover 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazinane (RDX) from RDX/!-butyrolactone solution with relatively large crystal size and high yield. In this process, fine crystals induced by drowning-out are dissolved into the solution by heating so that the dissolved solute can contribute to grow seed crystals by cooling.
Crystallization of Glycine
In the crystallization of glycine from the bulk aqueous phase without additives such as pH control agents or surfactants, nucleation of α-glycine is commonly induced. However, in the present work, selective crystallization of γ-glycine was successfully demonstrated from water/oleic acid emulsions without any additives.
Effect of Additives on Nucleation of RDX
Amphiphilic compounds such as oleylamine, oleyl alcohol, and N-dodecyl-2-pyrrolidone (NDP) were found to clearly promote the nucleation of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) from acetone. A statistical approach of induction time distribution of RDX showed that the nucleation rate increases significantly with addition of a small amount of amphiphilic additives, and experimental data were found to be well-represented by a compressed exponential model with an average induction time of a nonhomogeneous Poisson process.
Production of Submicronmeter-Sized RDX
In the drowning-out crystallization of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) with a spray, effects of operating parameters such as spray distance, solute concentration, and antisolvent temperature on crystal size were investigated.
