The Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (CSM) aims to develop cutting edge pure research in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Future Computing, linking fundamental science to real-world applications.
Data Science deals with the analysis and exploitation of large amounts of data (Big Data) drawing together disciplines as diverse as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics and Mathematics. The Centre is organised according to four key themes:
- Artificial Intelligence for Cyberphysical Systems
- Machine Learning for Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing
- Fundamental Algorithms for Artificial Intelligence
- Statistical and Computational Modelling
All of these themes contribute to solutions for six application areas upon which the Centre’s impact is focused:
- Healthcare and Improving Quality of Life
- Health and Life Sciences
- Industry 4.0
- Smart Cities and Transport
- The Future of Computing
- Novel Algorithms and the use of Data Science and High-Performance Computing in Science and Technology
