중간엽 줄기세포 (Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs))는 골수에서 제일 먼저 동정되었으며 중간엽 계통의 다양한 조직으로 분화할 수 있는 다분화기능을 보유하는 줄기세포이다.
화학적, 물리적, 생물학적인 다양한 외부적인 요인들이 이 중간엽 줄기세포가 지방세포로 또는 골세포로 분화하도록 결정하는 한다는 연구 내용들이 축적이 되었으며, 이런 계통의 세포들을 결정하는 데 문제가 생기면, 노화, 비만, 골다공증등 다양한 질환으로 진행되기에 이들의 조절이 상당히 중요하다.
이에 본 분석물에서는 중간엽 줄기세포의 중간엽 계통의 세포로 분화하는 데 기여하는 최근 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 조절기전을 다루기에 분석의 의의가 있다.
