API(American Petroleum Institute) Annual Refining Meeting은 매년 봄(5월), 가을(10월)에 열리며, Oil & Gas Industry와 Plant Engineering분야 관련 기술에 대한 International Standards를 정립하고 Updating하는 중요한 기능을 담당합니다. 전세계 대부분의 Refinery & Petrochemical Plants는 API Standards를 준수하여 설계됩니다. API Meeting에서는 각 기술분야 별로 세계적인 전문가들로 구성된 위원회 (Subcommittee)를 운영하여 관련 Codes & Standards를 제/개정해 나가고 있으며, 저는 Pressure Relieving Systems Subcommittee Member로 활동하고 있습니다. International Conference on System Thinking in Management, 2000(이하 ICSTM 2000)은 2년마다 열리는 컨퍼런스로 학계와 기업, 정부에 system thinking의 도입및 실제 적용에 관한 최근의 연구를 소개하고 이를 적용할 기회를 마련할 목적으로 이루어졌다. 이는 사회, 정치문제뿐만 아니라 환경, 조직 및 정보관리등을 포함, 기술적인 분야에서 조직운영에 관련된 제반 문제까지의 전 분야를 포괄한다.주제는 "Dynamics of Theory and Practice"로systems theory의 발전과systems management의 분석등을 다루고 문제해결을 위한 이론과 행동의 동태적 연결을 점검하는 것을 목표로 했다.이번 컨퍼런스에는 30여개국에서 350명이 참가하여 27개 session을 통해 발표가 이루어졌고 Professor Wendy Currie (Brunel University, UK), Professor Mike Jackson (University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, UK), Professor Graham Winch (University of Plymouth, UK), Professor Eric Wolstenhome (COGNITUS, UK)등이 Keynote speakers로 발표하였다.이 컨퍼런스 리포트는 University of New South Wales에서 System Dynamics 분야에서 연구를 하고 계신 윤영곤님께서 작성해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 윤영곤 님께 문의하시기 바랍니다.e-mail : y-yoon@adfa.edu.au첨부화일.ICSTM 2000 윤영곤.pdf

스탠포드 대학의 생물의학분야 연구의 핵심이 되는 연구소 중 하나인 Beckman Center에서 주관하는Beckman 심포지엄은 매년 생물의학 분야에서 세계적으로 유명한 과학자들을 초청하여 열리는데 올해는 Eli Lilly and Company의 후원하에 “Microbial Genomics and Pathogenesis” 라는 제목으로 개최되었다. 재조합 DNA에 대한 연구로 1980년에 노벨상을 수상한 스탠포드 대학 생화학과Paul Berg교수의 인사말로 시작된 심포지엄은 이어 스탠포드 대학의 Patrick Brown교수, Lucy Shapiro교수, Ron Davis 교수, UC 버클리의 Sung-Hou Kim (김성호) 교수, Nick Cozzarelli 교수, 워싱턴 대학의 Scott Hultgren 교수 등 각 분야에서 선두를 달리는 과학자들의 강연으로 이어졌다. 특히 이번 심포지엄에서는 대부분의 연사들이 DNA microarray를 이용한 연구결과를 많이 발표하여 주목을 끌었다. 이 보고서는 미국 Stanford 대학의 Department of Microbiology and Immunology에 계신 박철호박사님께서 작성해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 박사님께 문의하시기 바랍니다. e-mai l: chpark@leland.stanford.edu 첨부화일 .Microbial Genomics 박철호.pdf *원 보고서에서는 참고 사이트의 URL에 대한 하이퍼링크가 설정되어 있었는데, pdf화일로 변환할 경우 계속 에러가 발생하여 부득이 하게 하이퍼링크 설정을 "연결삭제"하였습니다. 이점 양해해 주시기 바랍니다.

ICSG2000 - International Conference on Structural Genomics 스크랩

International Conference on Structural Genomics 2000 (이하 ICSG2000)은 포스트 게놈 프로젝트의 하나인 Structural Genomics프로젝트를 주제로하여, 일본 동경대학의 요코야마교수(일본 이화학연구소RIKEN의 책임연구원 겸직)의 제안으로 올해 처음으로 일본 요코하마에서 개최되었다. 본 회의에는 일본, 미국과 유럽을 비롯한 전세계의Structural Genomics프로젝트를 진행시키고 있는 책임자들과 구조생물학 분야의 유명 연구자를 초청하여 이 프로젝트의 현재 진행 상황과 문제점등을 토의하여 앞으로의 발전방향을 모색할 것을 목적으로 한 회의이다. 이 보고서의 작성은 일본 동경대학에서 biology 분야로 박사학위를 받고 현재 연구원으로 계신 김인실 박사님께서 수고해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 박사님께 문의하시기 바랍니다. e-mail : Insilkim@hanmail.net 첨부화일 .ICSG2000-3 김인실.pdf
