이탈리아에선 연구와 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. GDP는 해마다 늘고 있으며, 1994년 이탈리아 과학분야에서 총 소비는 22,9trillion LIra이다. 이탈리아 연구 시스템은 대학과 공공연구 기관, 그리고 기업에 의해 수행된다. 이 문헌에는 Goverment Triennial Research Plan-1994-1996이 들어 있다. 그리고 1992까지의 이탈리아 과학과 기술과 관련하여 도표가 마련되어 있다.
